Sleep, Stress and Mood
Talk through persistent sleep difficulty, stress or low mood with a practitioner, and work out what would actually help.
When it has been going on too long
Poor sleep, sustained stress and low mood tend to feed each other, and they are among the most common reasons people put off seeing anyone — partly because it can be hard to describe, and partly because it can feel like something you should simply manage.
An appointment is a chance to set out what has been happening and for a practitioner to help you make sense of it.
What an appointment involves
Your practitioner will ask about your sleep, your circumstances, your general health and how long things have been going on. Sleep problems in particular often have a physical contributor that is worth ruling out, so the assessment considers your health as a whole rather than the symptom in isolation.
From there, your practitioner will discuss what is clinically appropriate. That might involve investigations, changes you can make, referral to another practitioner, or a plan of care with follow-up.
If you need help now
This service is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 000. If you need to talk to someone urgently, Lifeline is available on 13 11 14, at any hour.
